LINKS

a lot of other sites seem to have a page like this so why the heck not i've got one too now. totally random collection of links i found on the internet yayyy

ART-RELATED

  • electric zine maker, which maybe you already know about but it's a fun little program for drawing and making little tiny book things :)
  • shake art deluxe, a drawing program that lets you make things with shakey lines like vib ribbon on the ps1. there's also the original non-deluxe version, which only allows straight white lines on a black background and has no built-in save function, but is a little simpler to use
  • this "Sonic Team style CG" tutorial and this Sonic Battle style tutorial which i am not kidding i have had these both bookmarked since i was like 8 years old, and they've apparently existed since 2004! (WHEN I WAS 2?!?!?) i can't believe they're still up!
they're completely ancient and a bit specific to an equally ancient version of Photoshop so they might not be that applicable these days with newer software (and also like this guy lines exclusively with the lasso tool?? surely even with a mouse in 2004 there had to be an easier way than that) but i just find novelty in the fact that they're somehow still live!
(if the worst happens though they are both archived on the wayback machine, though it seems like some images get broken that way)

GAME-RELATED

  • myabandonware, a site with downloads for a bunch of games that are no longer officially sold. a lot of things here might be kinda shovelware-y or extremely ancient DOS games that hurt my brain but you may be surprised to find some more notable games around here too (...or at least the shovelware can be kinda funny sometimes)
Mandatory spiel: Yadda yadda you are the one responsible for what you download you should buy games whenever possible crimes are illegal i'm too young to go to jail i'm afraid of everything
  • a bunch of translated RPG maker games...there's a good chunk of the well known ones here, and also some other ones i've never seen anyone talk about in my whole life before. good chance you might find something that interests you either way
  • WOLF RPG editor, a freeware alternative to the RPG Maker series.
i've uh...never actually used it myself but a lot of the well known "RPG Maker" games were actually made with this. from the screenshots the program's UI reminds me a bit of RM2003 but with a couple fancier options. (though the appearance of the actual games made with it is more like...XP maybe?)
it might be good if you want to make something but really don't want to spend ANY money whatsoever not even 2 dollars.
(it's also (and originally) available in japanese, which seems to be a bit more updated than the english translation, but i figured it'd probably be best to link to the version i could actually read first...)
  • chao world extended, a modpack for the steam release of sonic adventure 2 that adds a ton of features to the chao garden part of the game, like more color variety, new accessories, restored unused content, the ability to have multiple chao garden save files, etc...honestly if i listed everything i thought was cool about it then eventually i'd just be repeating the wiki page.

HTML/CSS STUFF

  • a rainbow text generator that lets you do this basically, with controls for adjusting the saturation and lightness of the colors. also exports in bbcode if you're a guy who uses forums still?
please use responsibly as it does make your code a bit completely unreadable, and could easily make your site itself (or wherever you use it) also completely unreadable, if you don't have any regard for where you use it...the irony in asking that people exercise restraint and tasteful color scheme practices while linking to a thing that makes text into goddamn rainbow colors is not lost on me >_>
  • a "lorem ipsum" generator in case you ever need placeholder text. (very useful when making webpages!) also has a little bit of history on the passage itself if that interests you!
  • a tool for making css gradients because i feel the need to use css gradients all the damn time for some reason
  • also, a list of varyingly complex patterns you can accomplish with css gradients! who even needs background images (but seriously, gradient patterns can load a lot faster! do consider trying them out if they suit what you need!)

MISC

  • gifcam, a program for recording gifs of your desktop
  • ? (don't mind the url nothing's actually nsfw)
